GreenVET4U project aims to enhance the capacity of Vocational Education and Training (VET) providers and private entities to bridge the gap between skills demand and supply. By designing and delivering innovative curricula focused on Skills for Green Jobs, the project seeks to improve the relevance of vocational education to the Ugandan labor market.
The project will develop an innovative capacity building programme designed to upskill VET practitioners and in-company trainers to be true agents of change in their communities and transfers of excellence in the VET system of Uganda, promoting sustainable and inclusive growth and jobs in the country. They will test their skills during the project adapting the design of innovative curricula to the eco-tourism and waste-management related jobs, providing in-company work-based learning experiences.
Uganda faces significant challenges in its quest for economic growth. Despite having a youthful demographic that could potentially drive such growth; issues such as high unemployment rates, particularly among youth and women, persist. Additionally, there is a lack of a coherent skills development strategy to address emerging needs, including those related to climate change and environmental degradation. Access to quality vocational education remains limited due to various factors, including traditional lifestyles and poverty.
Vocational Education and Training (VET) holds promise in addressing Uganda's employment and skills development challenges. VET offers practical skills and knowledge necessary for employment, including in emerging green sectors, which are crucial for the country's sustainable development goals.
Green Skills are integral to Uganda's transition towards a sustainable and low-carbon economy. These skills not only contribute to environmental protection and sustainability but also equip individuals to adapt to the evolving demands of the economy.
Project users – Ugandan VET practitioners and in-company trainers. Project beneficiaries – young people, women and migrants from unprivileged communities in Uganda.
